Community Living Program
(Transition Help for Individuals with Disabilities)
During this past Legislative session, Legislators approved the use of $50,000 for transitioning individuals with disabilities out of the Grafton Developmental Center and into the community. The Arc of Bismarck would like to help with this process. The Arc of Bismarck realizes and understands that there are costs associated with a transition move that some people cannot afford. The Arc of Bismarck would like to help individuals that have a disability who are looking to transition out of an institutional setting (nursing home, Developmental Center, group homes, etc.) and into the community by purchasing household items for their home.
The Arc of Bismarck recently started the “Community Living” program to help lower the transitional cost for individuals with disabilities. The “Community Living” program is designed to help individuals with disabilities get the necessary items they need for their new home.
How does the program work? If you or someone you know is looking to transition to a more independent living situation, The Arc of Bismarck has an application form for you to fill out and if you are approved, you will receive a voucher that is worth up to $250. The voucher can be used at The Arc of Bismarck’s Thrift Store located in Bismarck. One can use the voucher to purchase items such as: (1) clothes; (2) kitchen/bathroom items; (3) appliances, and/or (4) furniture.
The Arc of Bismarck reserves the right to approve or deny applicants based on the availability of merchandise, emergency situations that may arise, and/or based on the income information that is provided on the application form. Priority will be given to those of lower income status.
